Anuradha Paudwal, also known as Alka Nadkarni, is a legendary playback singer from Karnataka, India. She became popular for her heartfelt singing in Bhajans and Hindi films during the 80s and 90s. Paudwal was honored with various awards, among them a National Film Award, four Filmfare Awards (from 1990 to 1992), and two Odisha State Film Awards. Because of her work in Indian devotional music and Bollywood, she’s called the “Bhajan Queen” and “Melody Queen.” She is often regarded as the best female playback singer in India after Lata Mangeshkar.
Personal Life
Anuradha Paudwal was born on October 20, 1957, in Karwar, Karnataka, India. She married Arun Paudwal, who was an assistant to music composer S.D. Burman, at the age of 15 in 1969. They had two children together, Aditya (son) and Kavita (daughter). Sadly, her son Aditya passed away in 2020 due to kidney failure. On March 30, 2017, Anuradha was awarded the Padma Shri Award by the then President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, at Rashtrapati Bhawan.
