Regardless of how you define love, being privileged enough to experience it in this lifetime is a precious feeling. At AmoMama, we love documenting stories that champion love, togetherness, and lovely connections, and today’s story is a beautiful continuation of this theme.

Love is a profoundly heartwarming phenomenon that can change people’s lives for the best. Everyone’s idea of love is different: some tend to believe in love at first sight, while others might view friendship as a stepping stone for getting to know someone and falling for them.

Heidi Parker and Ed Savitt met as students at Newcastle University, England, in 2011, where they both occupied the same student flat, albeit a year apart. Ed was a Psychology and Business Studies student, while Heidi studied Economics and Management at the university.

THEIR FIRST ENCOUNTER

“He didn’t know how to use the washing machine in the student flat. And he found a piece of post with my name on, realized I had lived there the year before and decided I could help.”

The pair’s first supposed encounter was when Ed reached out to Heidi on Facebook and messaged her, asking how to use the tumble dryer in his flat since she had been the last tenant. She recalled:

Heidi had come all the way from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, to complete her education, while Ed’s family was based in Putney, South West. When she received the Facebook message from Ed, Heidi said she was in her third year.

MEETING AGAIN

In 2018, the duo returned to where the miracle of their love story began.

A few weeks later, Heidi said she was on a night out with friends when she saw Ed again and decided to introduce herself. “We just spotted each other. I thought he was gorgeous, I thought he was actually amazing. All I can remember thinking is, ‘Wow, he is hot,'” explained Heidi.

POPPING THE BIG QUESTION

While taking a stroll on the grounds of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire in 2015, Ed popped the big question to Heidi with a three-stone diamond ring. After she said “Yes,” the lovebirds went home, where he had organized a surprise engagement party.

The duo hit it off well as time went by and started dating. After their first date in Pizza Express in Newcastle, Heidi noted that they “were basically inseparable.” After graduation, she moved to London, and a few years later, the couple bought a flat in Wadsworth, South West London, and moved in together.

A FAMILY DINNER

“Then out of nowhere my mom said, ‘When you were on holiday in Turkey and you were little you had a little boyfriend called Ed.'”

A few months after their engagement, the pair decided to dine with their mothers at Wagamamas. While having dinner, they started talking about childhood holidays when Heidi’s mom, Kay Parker, brought up an interesting old story. Heidi recounted:

FINDING OLD PHOTOS

Kay immediately recognized the boy in the photo as none other than Heidi’s fiancé Ed and shared the news with her. Heidi quickly reached out to Ed, and his family began looking for their old photos. Finally, they found what they were looking for. Regarding the incident, Heidi expressed:

While Ed’s mom, Fiona Savitt, was taken aback after hearing the shocking news, none of them thought too much of it after dinner. But two weeks later, Kay was rummaging in the attic when she stumbled upon a picture of her daughter with a boy from their family holiday to Turkey in July 1997.

“When my mom found the first photo of us she sent it to me and I was stunned. I actually had to lie down! Ed’s family then dug out their photo album from the same holiday and found about five other photos of us together and with our siblings too. It was unbelievable!”

A SWEET MEMORY

While the Parker and Savitt family didn’t chat much on holiday, they recalled that their then-children met at the kids’ club in Bodrum, Turkey, where they became fast friends and held hands the whole time.

Heidi, now a communications manager, explained that she had no memory of meeting Ed as a kid, but she could tell from the pictures that she spent a lot of time with him. The duo even found a picture of Heidi and her sisters in their nightgowns, burying Ed’s sister Maddy in the sand on the beach.

RECREATING THE MEMORABLE SCENE

Ed donned a fish-patterned T-shirt and checked shorts while Heidi wore a black swimming costume and posed on a balcony. Nearly 20 years later, in August 2016, the couple tied the knot and went to the Maldives for their honeymoon.

Sadly, the youngsters had to bid farewell, and their sweet holiday romance ended. To relive the memories, Heidi and Ed said they recreated the image from their holiday for their wedding invitations.

“LOVE IS THE GREATEST JOURNEY”

“When we met at university, it was love at first sight. Though we later found out it was actually love at second sight. I guess love really is the greatest journey after all.”

In 2018, the duo returned to where the miracle of their love story began. Ed and Heidi boarded a Turkish Airlines flight and went to the same kids’ club in Bodrum, where they met as youngsters. Heidi revealed:

Moreover, Ed, now the owner of DropShot Coffee in Southfields, expressed that while he didn’t believe in miracles, finding Heidi and falling in love with her changed his whole perspective on life.
